You have to be living under a rock for at least 3 weeks (see what we did there?) to not already know this.

Given the pressures from the world economy, as well as NATO, UK has frozen the assets of Roman Abramovich, officially still the current owner of Chelsea FC. The main reason behind this has been previous dealings with Russian president Vladimir Putin, who has done an unprovoked attack on Ukraine and its democracy.

Chelsea FC therefore seems to be in an unprecedented times, as they have been granted a special licence to continue operating, although there are a few caveats to this: Chelsea are currently not able to sign/ sell players, their main shirt sponsor Three has suspended their sponsorship of the club(circa £40 million per year deal), and fans with season tickets can attend the matches however they are not able to buy food or drink at the venue.

A Three spokesperson said: “In light of the government’s recently announced sanctions, we have requested Chelsea Football Club temporarily suspend our sponsorship of the club, including the removal of our brand from shirts and around the stadium until further notice." "We recognise that this decision will impact the many Chelsea fans who follow their team passionately. However, we feel that given the circumstances, and the Government sanction that is in place, it is the right thing to do."

Will this FC in turbulent times be sold, or saved by anyone? Will Roman be able to come out of this situation? Please give us your thoughts in the comments below.
